Workshops

Free federal retirement workshops and webinars

FFEBA runs free federal retirement workshops and webinars that explain FERS or CSRS, the TSP, Social Security, FEHB and FEGLI as one system, with time for questions. Sessions are education, not sales presentations, and are free for federal employees because Federal Retirement Consultant (FRCĀ®) professionals sponsor them.

What does a workshop cover?

  • Your pension. How FERS or CSRS figures your annuity, eligibility and the supplement.
  • The TSP. Contributions, the match, funds and withdrawal choices.
  • Social Security. How it fits with your federal pension.
  • Health and life insurance. Keeping FEHB, Medicare at 65 and FEGLI in retirement.
  • Survivor benefits. What the election costs and why it matters.
  • Your questions. Every session leaves time for them.

Who are workshops for?

How are workshops different from a sales seminar?

Workshops teach how the rules work, and attending commits you to nothing. If you want to talk about your own numbers afterward, a free benefits review is available and optional.

Can't make a session?

Read the guides in our learning library, which cover the same ground at your own pace, or skip ahead to a one-on-one conversation. Get matched with an FRC.

Before you book

Fair questions, straight answers.

Are FFEBA workshops really free?

Yes, for federal employees. They are sponsored by the FRC professionals in our network, so there is no fee to attend.

Will someone try to sell me something at a workshop?

Workshops teach how your benefits work. If you want to talk about your own situation afterward, you can book a free benefits review, and that is optional.

Are workshops official OPM training?

No. FFEBA is a private education organization, not a government agency, and its workshops are not OPM training. Presenters teach from OPM's published rules and point you to OPM and your HR office for official decisions.

Can my agency host a workshop?

Yes. Agencies and HR offices can request a session for their employees, in person or virtual. Use the workshop request form.

The free benefits review

“Can I retire at 57 with the FERS supplement?”

It depends on your birth year, your years of service and whether you keep working, because the supplement has an earnings test and stops at 62. An FRC works it through on your own record, and the review costs you nothing.
